Welcome to Elm Cottage 1916! I’m R. Craig Eaton (Craig) and this is the home that I share with my husband, Pete. It is a 1916 Arts and Crafts house with an extensive cottage garden. While our house is historically referenced as a ‘Craftsman’ or ‘Bungalow’, we refer to it mostly as being a ‘Cottage’ - due in large part to the garden that I have created over the past 10 years. Our English style, cottage garden encompasses the house - literally surrounding it on all sides and nestling it contently in place. The harmony between house and garden was a leading principal of the original British Arts and Crafts philosophy of the late 19th century, and one that I regularly put to work each and every day in my own life.
I love good design and all things well made, and very much appreciate craftsmanship and integrity. I have a love for antiques and vintage goods. I appreciate old homes and interior design of all styles. I am a passionate gardener and plantsman. I find myself very much attracted to all things English - in both design and gardening.
Which leads me to where we are today: being a writer with a strong desire to pursue creative outlets, I have created this particular blog to tell a few stories, share some photographs, and hopefully connect with, or perhaps even inspire, and certainly to learn from those of you who may stop this way. Get in touch with me through the contact link below. Just remember, the actual destination should be no more exciting than the journey itself! Thanks for taking a look around…
